Dr. Joseph Picone was born in Southington and has been practicing dentistry in the community for over 27 years. He has had the pleasure of helping countless individuals in our area to experience the benefits of sound oral health. Keep reading to learn more about him.
Dr. Joseph Picone graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1984 with a Bachelor of Science in biophysics. In 1988, he graduated from the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. Dr. Picone did exceptionally well in dental school and was honored with the Lewis Fox Award, which is given to the student with the best all-around clinical and didactic performance. In 1998, he was awarded fellowship in the Pierre Fauchard Academy.
Dr. Picone is committed to furthering his education with the goal of providing the best possible care to his patients. In 2002, he was awarded Fellowship in the Academy of General Dentistry and in 2009, he earned the prestigious Academy of General Dentistry Mastership Award. Dr. Picone was also given the distinguished 68th Annual Daniel F. Lynch Award from the Dental Society of Greater Waterbury in April 2015.
Dr. Picone also enjoys helping others to expand their knowledge. For many years, he served as a clinical instructor in the Division of Behavioral Sciences and Community Health at the University of Connecticut School of Dental Medicine. He was also a mentor to the dental students.
Dr. Picone currently serves as a board examiner for the The Commission on Dental Competency Assessments (CDCA), which administers the NERB's exams to dental students throughout the United States and Jamaica.
Dr. Picone is involved with a number of professional organizations. He maintains memberships in the Connecticut State Dental Association, Dental Society of Greater Southington, Academy of General Dentistry (AGD), and the American Dental Association. He is a Fellow in the American College of Dentists and a co-founder of National Italian/American Medical Society.
Dr. Picone is the former Chairman of the Continuing Education Council for the Connecticut State Dental Association (CSDA), a position which he held for 14 years. He is also a member of its Annual Sessions Council.
Dr. Picone is as Trustee of the Connecticut State Dental Foundation.
Dr. Picone is the Chairman of the Academy of General Dentistry's Scientific Meeting Council, and he has participated in many committees and task forces.
Dr. Picone enjoys giving back to the community. He has served on the Connecticut Mission of Mercy (CTMOM) Committee, and he has been a co-leader of its restorative clinic. CTMOM is a volunteer program that offers free dental care to underserved members of the community. In 2011, Dr. Picone participated in a five-day dental service trip with a team of 10 dental students and three licensed dentists. They provided oral healthcare to people in need in Tobati, Paraguay.
Dr. Picone resides in Cheshire with his wife, Carmelina. They are the proud parents of three children: Aniello, Joseph Jr., and Francesca. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling, hunting, and fishing.
