Fortunately, clear aligner treatments are often capable of delivering similar results without all the brackets and wires. Here at Comprehensive Dental Associates of Central Connecticut, we are proud to offer Invisalign® in East Hartford. Contact us today to learn more about this innovative and convenient treatment.

WHY CHOOSE COMPREHENSIVE DENTAL ASSOCIATES OF CENTRAL CONNECTICUT FOR INVISALIGN®?

How Invisalign® Works

When you come in for your consultation, we will determine if Invisalign® is right for you. If it is, we will use detailed images and impressions of your mouth to design your treatment. Invisalign® will then fabricate a series of clear plastic aligner trays for you. You will wear each aligner for about two weeks before you graduate to the next one. After you work your way through all of your aligners, you can expect to be the owner of a straighter, healthier smile.

Who Can Invisalign Help?

Does Invisalign fix overbite? What about crooked or gapped teeth? Invisalign is an excellent option for correcting a wide range of mild to moderate orthodontic problems. When you visit us for your consultation, we will carefully examine your mouth and learn a bit about your lifestyle and habits so we can determine if this treatment is right for you. In the meantime, here are some specific examples of problems that it is commonly used to correct:

Crowded Teeth

Crowded and crooked teeth overlap one another and are at an increased risk of numerous problems, including poor dental hygiene, cavities, gum disease, and more. Your teeth could even hit each other at odd angles and be prone to breakage. Invisalign, along with possible extractions, may be able to give all of your teeth the space they need to thrive.

Gaps Between Teeth

Gaps between teeth can cause gum issues, and many people dislike the way they look. If you dislike the extra space between your teeth, our team may be able to help.  Invisalign can often be used to bring the teeth closer together and eliminate those pesky gaps.

Overbite

An overbite, sometimes called an overjet, is a type of malocclusion (bad bite) that occurs when the top teeth rest too far in front of the bottom teeth. This can cause speech issues, uneven wear and tear on your enamel, and a range of other difficulties. Invisalign, along with special accessories, is often able to correct cases of overbite.

Underbite

If your bottom teeth rest in front of your top teeth, you have a type of malocclusion known as an underbite. Not only can this affect the aesthetics of your face, but it can also increase your risk of sleep apnea, mouth breathing, and difficulties with chewing and speaking. Often, Invisalign and appropriate accessories can fix underbites.

Crossbite

If only some of your bottom teeth rest in front of your top teeth, you have a crossbite. This can put you at risk of broken teeth, and it can affect your speech. You are also at an increased risk of headaches, teeth grinding, and several other complications. Invisalign is frequently able to shift the teeth and jaws in a way that corrects crossbites.

Open Bite

An open bite occurs when the front top and bottom teeth have a vertical gap between them, even when the back teeth are completely closed. This can make it difficult for you to bite or close your mouth all the way.  Invisalign clear aligners may be able to bring your teeth together in a way that closes your open bite and leads to improved function.

Benefits of Invisalign

Invisalign has already improved the lives of millions of people throughout the world. Patients are drawn to it because of the many benefits it offers! When you visit our team for a consultation, we can explain what you can expect with treatment and why Invisalign might be an excellent choice for you. In the meantime, you can build your enthusiasm for Invisalign by reviewing some of its most outstanding benefits, which are listed below.

Comfortable Treatment

Invisalign aligners are designed to provide a comfortable fit. Unlike traditional metal braces, which often cause irritation due to wires and brackets, Invisalign trays are crafted from flexible plastic that rests easily against the soft oral tissues. Additionally, you should experience minimal discomfort as the aligners apply pressure to your teeth and gradually shift them into their correct positions.

Discreet Trays

Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible when they are on your teeth, allowing you to straighten your smile without drawing too much attention to your treatment. Unlike metal braces, which are noticeable and may affect your confidence, these clear trays allow you to maintain a natural appearance. You can smile freely and engage in social situations without feelings of self-consciousness.

Easier Dental Hygiene

With Invisalign, maintaining oral hygiene is simplified. The removable trays allow you to brush and floss your teeth just as you normally would. No special instruments or techniques are required! In contrast, metal braces can trap food particles and make cleaning more difficult, leading to potential oral health issues.

Quick and Simple Follow-Ups

Visits to our office during Invisalign treatment are straightforward and do not take a lot of time. Unlike the adjustments required for metal braces, these appointments focus on tracking your progress and providing new sets of aligners. Most check-in appointments take 30 minutes or less!

Freedom from Dietary Restrictions

Invisalign gives you the flexibility to enjoy all your favorite foods. Unlike traditional braces, which require you to avoid hard, sticky, or crunchy items, Invisalign trays should not be in your mouth during meals. You will not need to worry about food getting caught in your appliances or damaging them, and you can indulge in a varied diet without compromising your orthodontic care.

Treatment That Fits a Busy Lifestyle

Invisalign aligners are perfectly suited for individuals with demanding schedules. The removable trays allow you to adapt your treatment to your unique circumstances. Whether you are preparing for a presentation, attending a special event, or doing virtually anything else, Invisalign provides the convenience and flexibility to integrate orthodontic care into your life with minimal disruption.

Understanding the Cost of Invisalign

The cost of Invisalign depends on several factors. During your consultation with your dentist in East Hartford, our team will be able to provide you with a price estimate that is tailored to your unique situation. You can expect to pay at least a few thousand dollars in total. To make the cost of Invisalign easier to manage, we work with third-party financiers and allow you to get started on your treatment with an attractively low down payment.

Factors that Affect the Cost of Invisalign

Some factors that can have a bearing on the cost of Invisalign include:

  • The Severity of Your Dental Misalignment: More complex or severe cases of misalignment require additional aligners, longer treatment, and possibly, additional accessories, all of which increase overall costs.
  • Single Arch vs. Double Arch Treatment: Treating both arches generally costs more than treating a single arch, since it involves more aligners. Usually, double arch treatment leads to much better results.
  • Your Compliance with Treatment Guidelines: Consistently wearing your aligners for the recommended 22 hours per day helps avoid treatment delays and minimizes the risk of extra expenses.

Invisalign vs. Mail-Order Aligners: Which Costs More?

Have you seen advertisements for mail-order clear aligner systems? These products may seem attractive due to their relatively low price.

However, we encourage you to think beyond the price tag. Instead, focus on what you are getting for your money. With Invisalign, you get a system with a proven track record of success. The aligners are made of a patented material, and you get the support of a highly qualified team throughout every step of your treatment.

In contrast, mail-order systems require you to take your own impressions, which could lead to mistakes in your treatment. Some patients have inadvertently worsened their dental alignment! Plus, these products may use less-than-ideal technology and methods. In the long run, they could end up costing you more money than Invisalign due to the need to make up for subpar treatment.

Does Dental Insurance Cover Invisalign?

Insurance does not usually cover Invisalign, but there are some exceptions, especially among premium plans. If Invisalign is covered, your benefits might pay for up to 50% of its cost, up to the amount of your policy’s lifetime orthodontic maximum. In other words, it may reduce your out-of-pocket obligation by $1,000 or more! Our team welcomes insurance, and we will be happy to help you figure out if/how your plan applies to your unique situation.

Options for Making Invisalign Affordable

Outside of insurance, some options that might make Invisalign easier to afford include:

  • We work with CareCredit and Sunbit to provide low-interest payment plans for qualified patients. Our team would be happy to assist you with the application process.
  • Essential Dental Plan. Designed for patients without insurance, this discount plan offers reduced fees on virtually all the services available in our office.

Invisalign FAQs

What Are Invisalign Attachments?

We might place small, tooth-colored bumps on your teeth during your treatment. These are known as Invisalign attachments, and they help your aligners grip your teeth and apply the appropriate amount of pressure. Because the attachments guide the force of the aligner trays, this helps your teeth move in a more precise and efficient way.

Attachments are temporary and easy to remove once your Invisalign journey has finished. They do not interfere with your daily activities and are barely noticeable.

Who Is Not Eligible for Invisalign?

You might not be a good candidate for Invisalign if:

  • You have severe or complex dental misalignment.
  • You have multiple missing teeth, or your teeth are unusually small.
  • You do not wish to have to remember to wear your aligner trays for the required 20 – 22 hours each day.
  • Your jaw is not yet fully developed.
  • You smoke or chew tobacco.

If you are not sure whether you qualify for Invisalign, visit our East Hartford team for a consultation. We will be happy to discuss orthodontic treatment options with you.

Can You Eat While Wearing Invisalign Trays?

You should always remove your Invisalign trays before eating. Eating with the trays in place can damage them or cause stains that are difficult to remove. Plus, food particles may get trapped between your trays and teeth, which can increase the risk of cavities and gum issues.

In contrast, removing your trays for meals and snacks protects them and facilitates an easier eating experience.

How Do I Take Off Invisalign Trays?

You can remove your Invisalign trays by gently starting at the back molars and working your way forward, alternating between the two sides of your mouth. Start with dry hands, and use your fingertips to lift the tray off your teeth, avoiding excessive force that could cause damage. If you experience difficulty, you may use a removal tool designed for Invisalign, known as a PulTool.

You should also be aware that Invisalign might be more difficult to remove if your aligner trays are cold. Therefore, wait a bit after drinking cold water before taking the trays out.

What Should I Do if My Invisalign Tray Broke?

If the damage consists of hairline cracks, you might be able to continue wearing the tray; just be extra careful when you take it in and out of your mouth.

If the damage is more severe, call our office. You might have to go back to wearing a previous aligner tray until we can replace the damaged one. Or, we might give you the go-ahead to move on to your next tray a few days early.
